Debra Lynn Turner grew up in Portland, Oregon. She came to the San Francisco Bay Area to be one of seven students at an experimental liberal arts college. She studied literature and writing with Martin Epstein, who went on to be a master teacher at NYU in the Tisch School, and participated in several writers’ groups with Flannery O’Connor Award-winner Molly Giles. Debra’s writing includes poetry and a one-act play.
Her story “Foam” was a runner up in Rosebud’s 2011 Mary Shelley Imaginative Fiction competition. Another story, “Rearview Mirror” appeared in Soundings Review (Fall/Winter 2012). “Bad” was published in the Fall 2013 issue of Trajectory. The title character of that story makes a brief appearance in her second novel, Driving Mother Home. Debra has written three novels over several years and is about to start on her fourth.
She has been self-employed as a graphic designer for decades, working mostly with nonprofit organizations. She lives in northern California with her husband. She loves music, kayaking, hiking and keeping up with her willful and amusing Jack Russell Terrier, named Calliope.

Mostly I write about women who are trying to live decent lives, to find their voice, to make sense of the world, to be a good friend, a good wife, a good human being. I am beginning my fourth novel and with luck and your support and interest all of my novels will find their way to the right publisher and into your library.
